The primary purpose of an IQI is to verify the sensitivity of the overall radiographic testing system . Since the visibility of a flaw depends on image quality, the IQI provides a proven method to confirm that the exposure, film processing, and viewing conditions were adequate.
Application field (industry use)
IQI is mandatory in any industry that relies on radiology to ensure safety and quality.
Oil and gas: Inspection of pipeline winding welds and pressure vessels (usually in accordance with API 1104 or ASME V).
Aerospace: Key component inspection (fuselage, engine, landing gear) to detect microcracks in lightweight alloys.
